Made It Monday 8/18

I am linking up again this week with Fourth Grade Frolics for Monday Made-It, but most of these items were made before vacation.  I am adding this to Funky Polkadot Giraffe's Too Cute Tuesday too.

My first item is a project my mother helped me with.  She has made a ton of these for different holidays; I have one for Halloween and Christmas.

I found some cheap-o supplies at the local craft store and wanted to try my hand at it.

The first thing is to cover the ring in pipe cleaners; just twist them on.

Then you just start looping the mesh and twisting it tight with the pipe cleaners.  I started with the widest mesh first.  I then added the second color, which was narrower mesh.  We then tied some ribbon pieces to the frame to add something more.

When I was all done, I flipped it over and pulled the pipe cleaners through.

I hung it above the door in my room.  I am in love with it.

My next Made It is a magnet board for my room.  I saw someone do this with a cookie sheet, but since I love polka dots, I thought a pizza pan was more my speed.  I found this one at the dollar store....for $1.

Everything else I had at home.

I started by turning the scrapbook paper (a 12 x 12 sheet was perfect) over and pushing it down to crease where to cut it.

After cutting the circle, which was not as perfect as I would have liked, I spray glued it down.  A little nail polish remover took the excess off the edge.

I then asked dear hubby to punch two holes in the top.  He used a screwdriver and hammer.  Although if you try this, punch from the front to the back, so the sharp pieces are on the back.

I then threaded ribbon through the holes and VIOLA!
I hung it next to my desk and put some of my fun magnets on it to hold notes, so they don't get lost in the chaos that is my desk on any given day.

My last made it was last night's dinner: BBQ Chicken in the crock pot.  I know many of us are or are getting ready to head back to school, so quick and easy dinners are a must.  They are also a must on days you are unpacking from a two week trip.

When I went to restock my fridge at the store yesterday, they had some cut up chicken and thighs marked down.  I got two packages and divided them up in freezer bags.  I used the thighs and two breasts for this meal, but the rest I froze for later.

I pretty much love my crock pot year-round because it makes steaming dishes in the winter when I am busy and need something hot.  In the summer it keeps my house from heating up because of the oven.

I simply threw the raw meat in the crock pot, added a cup of water, sprinkled it with something hubby had in the spice cabinet, turned it on high, and went to unpack our Disney bags.

It only took a couple of hours for it to cook through.

I then pulled the meat off the bone (I wear kitchen gloves for this as it is HOT and messy) and drained the cock pot.  I have saved the bones, bits, and liquid for stock, but not this time.

I put the meat back in the crock pot, added Sweet Baby Ray's, and left it on warm so we could serve it on buns with some slaw when we got hungry.

My final made it is that I made contact with a great company and made my first giveaway.

Sassafras and I are teaming up to giveaway a pair of their wonderful scissors.
I blogged about these scissors a few weeks ago; check out my post HERE.
